Maurice Edwards
The Venerable Maurice Henry Edwards OBE, Master of Arts was an eminent Anglican priest in the second half of the twentieth century.
He was born on 17 May 1886[1] and educated at Ripon Grammar School and Queens' College, Cambridge. He was ordained a priest in the Church of England [2] in 1911 and served a Curate at Bedale. He was a Royal Navy chaplain during World War I and in 1918 joined the fledgling Royal Air Force Chaplaincy Service, rising through the service to become an Honorary Chaplain to the King and eventually its Archdeacon (Chaplain-in-Chief). From 1944 to 1947 he was based at the Rother Vale Collieries after which he became Rector of Acton Burnell cum Pitchford, apost he held until his retirement in 1953. He died on 26 April 1961.[3]
